Bio. Ali Cakmak received his B.Sc. degree in 2003 from the Computer Engineering Department at Bilkent University, and his Ph.D. degree in 2008 from the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at Case Western Reserve University. Presently, he is a postdoctoral research associate, and member of Database and Bioinformatics Research Lab. In a broader sense, his research interests fall into data mining applications in Bioinformatics. During his doctoral studies, he worked on metabolomics data analysis, mining and searching ontology-superimposed graph databases, biomedical literature mining for gene annotations, and functionality annotation analysis of biological networks with applications on pathway inference and categorization. He also collaborated with fellow graduate students on developing effective searching and ranking techniques for digital libraries. His works have been published in prestigious journals and conferences including Bioinformatics, BMC Bioinformatics, VLDB Journal, PSB, CSB, and EDBT. He has recently been nominated by the Case School of Engineering for participation in the American Association for the Advancement of Science Program for Excellence in Science.
